Default usb drivers & vista upgrade
Hi people:
Glad to be here. Hopefully someone can help me I'm going crazy. I recently did an upgrade from XP to Vista Home Premium and I lost all use of my USB ports. I purchase a driver service but their updates will not install. Can anyone give me an idea how to get a good driver. I have a Phoenix award and called them. They checked out my BIOS and said it would work with Vista and it was up to date. Said I just needed a new driver.
I'm running Phoenix Award
Processor - AMD Athlon 3000+
32-bit operating system.
Memory 789mb (know I need more memory)

Vista will not remove all programs I want removed so Can clean my hard drive and then should I reinstall XP and the Vista upgrade.

Also I need more memory. Have PC 3200 - 512MB DDR and 258 DDR memory cards in now. Can I take out the 258 card and put in a 1Gb card of DDDS.

Thanks for all the help and sorry for asking to much at one time. But after 4 days of this I'm going crazy:

Default Re: usb drivers & vista upgrade
When vista asks where to search for the usb drivers point it to "C:\WINDOWS\System32" and see if that helps. However many usb items may not work with VISTA did you run a check beforehand?

Memory: go to

Do the online scan. this will tell you how much memory your computer can take, what type you need ... and you can even order the memory chips from them.

Good company with fast delivery.

Go back to XP ... I have never had a problem with XP ... however VISTA is the FUTURE of computing. eventually all PCs will have Vista installed and support for XP will be phased out.

As you have taken the upgrade step, I would stick at it. Vista will get better when SP1 comes out. The future of XP is dead in the water and although I will try to hang on to it as long as possible, I know that eventully it will be Death or Vista :

Talking Re: usb drivers & vista upgrade
Thanks for the help. I will check out the memory page. I still need to add more memory. After I posted this my computer did a complete meltdown, so I have returned to XP. My motherboard will not support Vista. Even though Microsoft said it would. I'll wait until they fix vista and then probably get a new computer.
I greatly appreciate the help.
