    Default partition help

Hi can anyone explain in simple turm about partioning.

The problem iv got: just had xp pro installed on my pc, when the bloke from the shop phoned and asked about partioning hard drive ( not fully understanding ) i said i wonted 2 partions, 1st c: for the o/s and the 2nd D: for data.
But ive got the pc home : theres 2 o/s to start , both xp pro. now as i said i havnt got a clue about partioning, but having an o/s installed twice must take up space and affect xp performance.
i just want the o/s on once with a c: for o/s and d: for data. iv got xp pro disk im just a bit wary of doing install with out some one help

    Hello,

Well im not sure what this guy has done to you pc, i see no need to have XP installed twice, that makes no sense.

Basically Partitioning is "dividing the drive into serveral parts", for example if you had a 20Gb Drive you could have a 10Gb partition for your C: (XP install) and the other 10Gb as your D: drive.
Partitions can be set up during the xp install, once partitions are set you cant really change the sizes unless you use software like partition magic

I would say it may be worth starting again and installing XP from scratch from your CD, I would be tempted to speak to the guy who done the install and ask him why you have XP installed twice.. and maybe get him to redo it again correctly.

If you need any help doing the install yourself then let us know

    thanks

hi, Yes those will all be deleted, but if you have the cd's then you can re-install them after you have done the windows install! During the install process you will be given the option to delete the current partitions, i think it would be wise to do that in your case! Once deleted you will be given the option to create a new paritions, here you can choose the size you want the C: partition to be. any problems come back to me
