Thread: No icons or taskbar

Running XP sp2 Compaq presario. After running a system scan on the net shut down pc re booted but now only have the background picture, no icons, cant get into system at all, no welcome screen and unable to shut down the pc correctly.
Any help appreciated. It is my partners pc that has the problem.

the first thing i would do is try booting into safe mode and try a system restore to a date prior to the scan

Boot into safe mode

1. After switching on, start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.

2. Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.

3. Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

Also can you tell us what the online scan you did was called?

WOW!!!!! its fixed, thank you. The problem is made harder as we are in Spain and his is a Spanish computer but that was soooo easy.
He was on an American site that scans your pc to see what upgrades are available he cant remember the name but wont be going on it again.
Thanks again you have made him a very happy man he is impressed beyond belief.

Smart dog, shame about the owner. Buy a computer in China its all in Chinese, buy one in Spain y la idioma es Espanol. Esta muy difficil para el hombre que es tonto.
