Default Win Xp PRO will not operate on adminisrators account

Sometime within the last 2 weeks after getting a windows update, or a Spybot update my PC will not run on my user account(the administrators account). It starts up, accepts my password and begins to wind up my desktop, but after loading a few programmes and icons to the taskber it shuts down. It then tries to restart. I can access my wifes account, but from there I cannot do any remedial work, because I do not have users privilege.I occasionally get a "svchost.exe" error flashing up, and I don`t believe this to be a virus. Any ideas, even to change the administrators account to my wife so that I can use her account to try and sort things out. Everthing I try I get "no user privilege"warnings. Thanks

Try downloading, updating and running a full scan with the free superantispyware on your limited account. http://www.superantispyware.com/index.html . This also has a handy feature that allows you to find out what's running on the PC. You could download the zip file on another PC, burn to disk and transfer to your PC if unable to download. If that picks up nothing then, if you can boot up from the xp CD , try an XP repair. Hopefully you have backups. http://www.simplyguides.net/guides/r...ation_xp.shtml

    Good luck.

I am not allowed to run any new kind of software, because on the account I am operating from(a non administrator acoount) It bar`s me because I do not have authority.

Ok got someone in to do a fix, as I was really browned off. ADVICE FOR ALL don`t have only one Administrator account even if it is a one user PC. Thanks to all.

Hello parahandy61. Have you found a solution yet? Seems that you might have to reformat and reinstall Windows. I always have two admin accounts in case of such incidences. Saved my bacon once.

Yes I managaged to get it fixed by someone who came to see me who was expert on Win PRO. He somehow managed to get into safe mode. He said a lot of the time it is just luck catching it at exactly the right keystroke. Also another significant factor was using a non USB mouse and keyboard? a lot of mother boards only allow non usb input equipment to work on the BIOS. After that he got it into my account.Anyway it is working ok and I still have all my info. I now have 2 admin accounts, as I will not be caught out again with one. This is sound advice for everyone who reads this. Thanks Fabler, see you around...ADS
