Thread: Problems staying connected to the internet

A few days ago, my computer started doing something weird. I would be on the internet, using Firefox as the browser, after about 5 minutes I could no longer browse anywhere. If I re-boot my computer, everything resets and I can get back on for another short period of time. I can switch to Explorer and end up with the same results. I can still receive all email at any time.After the loss of internet, under command prompt, I can ping any site and get a response but no connection on the computer. Firefox and Explorer have been un-installed. The firewall has been turned on and off with no results.There are 5 other computers on the same router all with no problems. The Cat 5 cable to the computer in question has been changed. There are no other issues that can be easily found. Can you please help me?

Have you tried clearing out the Catche/History/ and prefetch folders?

Thanks for the idea, but I had already tried that. I have also run defrag, disc clean, and system restore. Kinda frustrated.

Try to Flush your DNS.......

Click Start > Run.
Type in 'cmd' to open Command Prompt. Press Enter.
Once opened, type: ipconfig /flushdns ***Note*** Use Exact Spelling.
If successful, it will say "Successful Flush Of DNS Cache"...such as such.....
Close Command Prompt (cmd)


Another thing is if you are on broadband dsl/cable etc. Try disabling the computers onboard modem.


Thirdly have you tried runniong "winsockfix"
