Thread: XP PRO error

I just started IT school but I can't seem to shake this virus on my aunts' computer. It a Trojan Horse\SEC or something like that. It will let you into a guest user account but will not let you get in under administrator. Even under guest user an error code C:\windows\system32fbyqaxib.dll, RUNDELL or something is missing. It is a Gateway midtower with XP Pro. I can get into the command prompt but since my knowledge is limited I've only been able to cls and dir. It didn't recognize format, which I was just checking to see if it would recognize that. I thought about trying to repair the MBR or do a SFC and see if that would help but my time is limited due to work/school/family. I ran AVG 8.0 and it found it but when you attempted to move it to the vault access was denied. Now the AVG will not run. Any suggestions/hacker/virus tools available for a soon to be tech? I did look on microsoft website and I was unsuccessful with finding the file or a fix.

Download Spybot > Here to your desktop (don't install it yet !) now reboot the PC and keep tapping F8 key this will take you to Safe mode options screen, with your arrow key move the white bar up to SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING and press enter/return your PC will open in safe mode and you need to click YES, then you will see your desktop install Spybot and run it in safe mode you should ab able to delete your problem. - any problems post back.
