Thread: deskttop icons disapeared

i woke up this morning and all my desktop icons have dissapeared, i can't even right click on the desktop. i tried access my computer through start but i get a message saying windows can't find (null) any help would be much appreciated.

Try tapping F8 (or F5 on some PCs) on boot up. You should get to a screen that allows you to select "last known good configuration". If that fails then open task manager either by ctrl+alt and delete or by right clicking the task bar.
Click on file then new task (run). Type in control panel and click ok. Click on performance and maintenance and in left pane you should see system restore.
Try a restore point to before the problem.
