Thread: Modem porblem

Hi,
I have problem with my E-machine with X P. Every time I try to get on line I get the message saying that the Modem can’t be found. However, I am able to get into everything that’s on the computer. Can someone please tell me what is going on and what I need to do to fix it?

Could be a couple of things.

Your Modem died
Your Modem driver are corrupt

Click "Start then Right click on my computer, select properties.

Now select "Hardware/Device manager" Click the litte box beside "Modems"

Do you see anything there?

Thanks for responding. When I go to the Modem from Hardware/device manager it tells me that there is no Modem present.

Sounds like your modem has died, Contact you ISP (Internet Provider) And tell them of your problem, The equipment is probably theirs and they should replace your modem.

As for as I know the only modem is inside the computer so that makes it my problem.
Is it hard to replace a modem? Would it be better to go with an external rather than an internal modem? If a computer dummy like me can replace it how do I find out what I need to get?

A right ... I take it you are on Dial-up through a telephone line.

Replacement modems are reasonably priced .. some good news
