Default No sound in Internet Explorer

My PC has a Realtek ALC658 digital sound card and has a set of Logitec Dolby 5.1 surround sound speakers attached. The speakers work as they should with iTunes, Mindows Movie Player, Outlook Express items etc however, will not play audio on IE, eg YouTube and sites like that. With the sound turned up to full on any Internet video you can barely hear it, certainly not enough to understand words.

Can anyone tell me if this is a hardware problem or something to do with IE?

I have tried all the settings in the Control Panel but nothing has worked.

    Cheers.

Windows XP:Try:click start, click control panel, click sounds, speech, audio devices. Now click change speaker settings!Under (Sounds & Audio Device Properties),Click Audio, Under sound playback, check to see if you sound card name is showing not(Modem Line_#) if not showing click it then, apply!(at the bottom! Now try you sound online!

    See if that works.
