    Default Firewall recommendation

I've got a Dell 4700 P-IV Win XP SP3 here which I have just finished de-virusing (MBAM, SAS, BitDefender, GMER, HJT - it is squeaky clean). I was trying to put Comodo Internet Security on it, but after install, the computer would not boot up all the way - it would get to the XP splash screen and then just sit there. I had to boot into last known good config (did this several times) and uninstall it to get the thing running again. I then tried installing an older version of the firewall only, which did install, but would not update. So off that went too. No answer in their help forum for 3 days now, so I am looking for another recommendation for a dependable firewall that's not complicated - this is for kids at a school and it has to be pretty much "silent". Anyone have any experience with any other free firewalls that I could consider? Thanks.

Hello simrick, hope you're well! For XP I'd try sygate firewall. Pretty simple and remembers the permissions you set. Now I'm on Vista and Windows 7 I use Windows' own firewall with a controller program. Windows 7 Firewall Control : Sphinx Software The free version of course
