Thread: no response to to keyboard when trying to install windows

just built a desktop from the bottom up. i really dont know anything about computers. when i try to install windows xp on my computer, it runs fine until it gets to the "welcome to setup" screen. then it ask me to press enter to install xp now. but when i press it nothing happens. i have no responce from the R (repair) key or the F3 (quit) key. i have an asus p5gd2 motherboard. and intel pentium 4 proc. and an ATA hard drive. everything is new except for the hard drive. a friend bought it to troubleshoot a problem that he had. but i think he just hooked it up one time, and it didnt solve his problem. i can try to give anymore information you may need, but im serious when i say i no nothing about this stuff.

Ok, first thing i would like you to do is check a couple of things for me if possible.

1) Can you check the Power Supply Rating in your case is high enough, the motherboard you have requires a ATX 12V Spec 2.0 Compliant, min 350W. You should be able to read these ratings off a sticker on the PSU, you will have to remove the computer side panel to have a look.

2) You said your HDD isnt new! Do you know if it still has data on it, such as an older copy of windows off some sort. If it has it may be worth wiping it , you can use Fdisk to do this, http://www.onecomputerguy.com/instal...k.htm#overview has a great guide on how to do this.
