formatting/reinstalling

HELP HELP PLEASE BEFORE I PULL THE LAST FEW BITS OF HAIR I HAVE LEFT OUT. (LOL)

can somebody help me please? im trying to reformat my daughters ACER laptop. got the original disks but cannot get it
to work for me.

Ok we are going to need a bit more info, what exactly is happening?

we had problems with a virus. normally when ive done it with other machines ive restared with disc in and pressed f? button then reformatted and re installed but for some reason which ever f? button i try nothing stops windows starting

Not all machines work the same way when it comes to restoring, do you have a restore cd?
If it is a cd you may have to make sure the cd rom is the first device in the boot list, to check this you will need to enter your machines BIOS, normally the del key on boot up and you then check the boot order and make sure the cd rom is the first device.

tried that still wont boot from cd

Well there is no reason why is shouldnt boot of the cd is that the cd isnt bootable or the cd rom isnt working correctly. Other then that you could try doing a manual install if you have a xp cd
