Default Lost 'Administrator'
I had a user called Administrator. All my email settings etc were on this name and I used it for everything. I read it was better not to do this so I set up a user called Hazel and meant to set it up with restricted but chose administrator privileges by mistake. When I went back to Users the Administrator user had gone. Can anyone help me with getting that back. It still exists as I can 'see' it in certain areas

Many thanks
Hazel

Hi, if I get this right you only had the administrator on the login screen, and then you did a second user and then magically the "Administrator" account disappeared from the login screen? That is normal because WinXP normally don't allow the administrator account to be shown on the login screen except for safe mode.

What do do want to do? Delete the second account or move all settings from the Administrator account to the new?

If you want to delete the new account simply hit

Start > Run > compmgmt.msc > then the tab "Local Users and Groups"

then choose "Users" and there you have all users on your system.

Then you can simply delete the Hazel account after saving all data you want to save.

If you want to copy all settings then it get more complicated I think.

Make your choice :P

Hope this helped

Thanks for such a quick reply. I want to either move all settings from the Administrator account to the new Hazel account, or better still get the Administrator account back as this has all my settings.
Thanks in anticipation
Hazel

Hi, if you want the Administrator account back on the login screen delete the Hazel account.

I think that will work..

You find how to do it in the other post

Thanks for your reply. I did think of that but it will not allow me to delete Hazel as ther has to be one account that has administrator priviledges

Talking Re: Lost 'Administrator'
Okey, then system restore or make the Hazel account the same as the administrator account.

Is it hard to setup the Hazel account the same as the Administrator?

Maybe it's worth it in the log run

If you want to see the administrator account on the user list, press ctrl + alt + del TWICE on the login screen, and you can get to the administrator account there, but sometimes there's a password on it, which can't be changed without the cmd line.

if you wan't to log into it, go onto your normal account, go to 'Start' 'Run' type in 'cmd'
then type "net user Administrator *"
(without the quotes"")
Don't forget the * at the end, This will allow you to change the password, If you accidently put the wrong password or you forget it, don't worry, you can use the same command line to change it without permission of the old password, cool yeh.
This can be done with any account aswel, by replacing Administrator to you other account names.

By doing that, you can go to the user menu, and press Ctrl + alt + del 2 times and log into the administrator account, without safemode, and also keep your other accounts.

Just a tip i use sometimes,
Hope its helpful

Mattio

Hi again Now I found a solution how to put the administrator on the logon screen Just download the Microsoft powertoy TweakUI

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/D...powertoys.mspx

Be sure to get the one for your system, 32/64....

then go to the tab "Logon" and then enable "Show Administrator on welcome screen". That would fix it I think

Hope this make this problem vanish

Cheers
